Aww, SUTS is over after today! It's a real bummer; I don't know that I could maintain this every day of life lol, but it's both a lot of fun and a welcomed break from what has usually become monotonous by this time of year. I've missed my blog though; I feel like SUTS and the Spotlight in particular have been very inspiring in terms of different kinds of posts to do in the future. With September and autumn right around the corner, I'm glad to get back to posting other kinds of content. Our last #atvdailycinema is a romance, this one starring Shelley Winters as the mother of a blind young woman who falls in love with a black man, played by Sidney Poitier. Because interracial romances weren't quite the norm back then, I'm sure that this film made some waves. We're also on Previous TNT Alert; The Poseidon Adventure was a TNT choice earlier this year and it was an amazing movie with an all-star cast. In it an ocean liner is flipped upside down mid-journey and an eclectic group of survivors have to escape the ship before it is totally submerged. Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine and Red Buttons are some of the stars sharing the screen with today's star, who blew me away in the majority of her scenes. Well, that does it for me and for this year's edition of SUTS. Needing a face to carry the story, Gary Cooper's character, in need of money, is hired and an unintentional political revolution kicks off. But will it pay off for everyone in the end? Today's #atvdailycinema pick is the suspense film Gaslight, which stars Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer as a newly married couple but not long after their marriage, the former begins to worry that the latter is purposely trying to drive her insane. Strange unexplained things begin to happen at their home, and she soon realizes that there are quite a few things that she has yet to learn about her new husband. I thought Casablanca would have been the common pick because it is arguably some of Ingrid Bergman's best work, so I wanted to choose something else. Psychological thrillers and suspense films never go out of fashion for me, so that's why I went with Gaslight. This one airs a little later in the evening so if you're not a night owl, this is one you might have to DVR. Happy viewing!

Today is another day that we are on both Previous TNT and Daily Cinema Alert, and Grand Hotel happens to be both. If you haven't watched it yet, you should. It has an all-star cast of people staying at a hotel, and the movie follows all of their different stories as their paths intersect. Our other Previous TNT Alert is on much earlier in the morning, immediately after today's #atvdailycinema, and is another film that I think showcases Garbo's talent. Flesh and the Devil is a silent flick about a woman who comes between two old friends; I believe we watched this sometime last year. Finally, today's cinema is one of Garbo's earliest films, the silent romantic drama The Temptress. Garbo plays a woman who destroys the lives of the men around her in her selfish pursuits, but receives her own comeuppance in the end. This one is actually about to come on in a few hours, so don't forget to DVR it. Happy viewing!

Today is one of the few times we've had a Double Daily Cinema this year. We had one last week and today marks the second and last one of this year's Summer Under the Stars. The first Cinema choice is Stronger than Desire, which is about a lawyer who is hired to defend a woman for murder, while the man's wife, who actually committed the crime, says nothing. I found that highly intriguing. The next one is of equal interest to me and comes on later in the evening. Downstairs pairs Virginia Bruce with John Gilbert as the latter seduces, manipulates and blackmails his way from a lowly chauffeur to high-level society. How could I have possibly chosen between the two? I couldn't, so I didn't. lol Happy viewing!

I had originally chosen The Gazebo for today's #atvdailycinema, but because it will have already aired by the time this gets published, I chose another film. I didn't want to go with Singin' in the Rain because of how many classic film buffs have seen it, so I went with How Sweet It Is!, which stars Debbie Reynolds with another of my play husbands, James Garner. In this comedy, an American couple have to go to Paris for a work vacation, but it quickly becomes a struggle to see which of the two remain faithful. I apologize once again for how late in the day this is going up. I had a small health scare last night shortly before this was scheduled to publish and decided to try and rest; the post could (and did) wait until I was positive I wouldn't need to go to the hospital. I ended up not going, so I rested. Either way, I'm probably going to prep the remaining week of posts and set them to auto-publish today so that regardless of what's going on, the day's post will go live on time. I chose Shanghai Express for today's #atvdailycinema, which is a romance about a woman who boards a train in an attempt to outrun her past but ends up re-kindling an old romance in the process. Dietrich co-stars with Anna May Wong, Clive Brook and Warner Oland in this film. Night Plane from Chungking and Peking Express are both cited as being remakes of this film. I've seen none of the above, but I figure I should start off with the original. I also chose this because it was listed as a Pre-Code film, and I haven't seen too many of those. I've seen movies made during the time period, but none of them were sexual or bawdy in nature. I haven't seen too many risque films of that time and I don't know if this is considered to be one of them, but I'm interested to see it anyway. Happy viewing!

This other movie is what I was referencing in yesterday's post. For those of you in Central or Eastern time, Lady Killer will be on not long after this post goes up, and Popi will be on later this evening. For me it aired on Thursday night. Sorry, folks. lol Speaking of Popi though, this is a dramedy about a Puerto Rican father who, in short, does the most when it comes to trying to give his two sons a better life than the one they have in Spanish Harlem. Rita Moreno co-stars in this movie and a little sidenote about her, the first time I saw anything she was in was when she guest-starred on The Nanny as Fran's old high school gym coach. She was also the voice of Carmen Sandiego, which was one of my favorite shows as a kid. But while I'm on the subject, the first time I saw Alan Arkin was as that hack wellness guide to John Cusack's character in America's Sweethearts. He was one of the best parts of that film to me, but that's one of my favorite movies so I might be a little biased. I've rambled enough. See you tomorrow!

Sooo....those two days of Daily Cinemas at a decent time have come to an end again, but only temporarily. lol We're back to a reasonable time for tomorrow. But anywho, the Daily Cinema for Mae Clarke is the comedy Lady Killer, which is about a mobster who ends up going Hollywood and becoming a hot commodity, but feels the obvious conflict between his old life and his new one. Day 20 already, though? Good grief the time is flying. How annoying. I've been slacking something serious with being on Twitter during the Daily Cinema airings, but to be honest I've been talking to myself on there, so I don't feel the need as often to jump on there and live-tweet. Today we have two choices for #atvdailycinema, but one of them is more of a personal preference than the other one. Nobody else in the family or my personal circles enjoy classic movies, so usually this is a pleasure I indulge in alone. I don't mind too much anymore, but it would be nice to be able to share this with some of the people in my life sometimes. So when a movie that a relative actually likes comes on, I jump on it, which brings me to the first Daily Cinema of the day. My mom's favorite cowboy is John Wayne, and McLintock! happens to be one of her favorite films. She's watched it, to my knowledge, more than 5 times, but I have yet to see it all the way through so I'm looking forward to watching that with her tomorrow. The Duke co-stars with Maureen O'Hara in a comedy about a cattle baron fighting with both his rebellious estranged wife and the normal dangers of the Old West. The second movie is the one I would have chosen had McLintock! not been on the lineup, which is another comedy. The Quiet Man comes on later in the day and is about an Irish former boxer who returns to his homeland of Ireland and tries to find a proper wife but falls in love with a feisty woman instead. Maureen O'Hara co-stars in this film as well, so it's probably going to be a hoot, if the bit I saw in McLintock! is anything to go by. Happy viewing!

We're on a Previous TNT Alert again; I featured Gone with the Wind back in 2013 for Valentine's Day, not long after I'd started the TNT tradition. I hadn't seen the movie yet, Valentine's Day happened to fall on a Thursday that year and this was TCM's featured film for the holiday. The stars aligned for me. LOL To be honest, that's the kind of movie I can only watch once. We're also on Previous Daily Cinema alert; I chose The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone a couple of years ago when my other play husband, Warren Beatty, was featured during SUTS. So I'm sort of a pretend bigamist. Anyway, today's Daily Cinema is at a decent time (for the first time in days--sorry again); I chose the romance Dark Journey, which is about a double agent who falls in love with a rival spy, the head of the German Intelligence, during WWI. I don't think we've had a full-on romance since Shall We Dance a couple of weeks ago, which is still categorized more as a musical than a romance. If you've already seen Dark Journey, I'd suggest Waterloo Bridge as a backup Cinema choice; in it a ballerina falls in love with a soldier during WWI and later becomes a prostitute after he is killed. I wanted a change in genre and that sounded like a rather heavy movie, so that's why I went with Dark Journey instead. I hope you enjoy and I'll see you tomorrow!
