To be honest, the urge was strong to select His Girl Friday for today's movie pick (for purely biased reasons, i.e. Mr. Cary Grant) but I ultimately went with a film that I'd seen the remake of but was constantly compared to the original. In this film, which is based off of the Patrick Dennis novel, Rosalind Russell stars as the titular Mame Dennis, who becomes the caregiver to her young nephew Patrick following the death of her brother. To say Mame is....atypical would be an understatement. Mame is loud, lively and seemingly carefree, which is quite a change from Patrick's stuffy upbringing.
I saw the 1970s version of Mame with Lucille Ball and Bea Arthur, but it was more of a cult hit than a widely accepted one, which was partially because critics said it failed in comparison to the original, which is today's film. Personally, I loved the musical version and didn't see why it was so negatively received, but that's probably why I'm not a critic. Well that, and we already know I'm shit at reviewing films. lol Anyway, if you're going to be online during any of today's films, you can use the tag #summerunderthestars to join the conversation and if you watch Auntie Mame, use the tag #atvdailycinema so that I can see what you think of the movie. See you tomorrow!
