SUTS Day 1: Marilyn Monroe
Hi!!!! Can you tell I'm excited? If it's not already obvious, lemme tell you, I am sooo excited. Today's the first day of SUTS!! The only thing that makes this time of year even better is the fact that school supply weekend is coming up. It's like Christmastime for me, yo. lol Anyway, one of the reasons I'm so excited is because this year's festival has so many films I can't wait to see, but another reason is because the lineup starts with Marilyn Monroe, who starred in some of my favorite classic films. Let's take a look at the lineup.

10:00PM Niagara (1953)
12:00AM River of No Return (1954)
*Previous Daily Cinema Alert! 2:00AM How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)*
When was this featured? SUTS Day 30: Betty Grable (2014)
4:00AM The Prince and the Showgirl (1957)
Daily Cinema: Clash by Night (1952)
Clash by Night stars Barbara Stanwyck as a former party girl who tires of her fast-paced life and decides to return to her hometown, where she moves back into her childhood home with her brother and his girlfriend (Monroe). She begins dating a local fisherman (Douglas) and marries him, despite not loving him. She takes an immediate dislike to his best friend (Ryan) and this later turns to passion, which then sparks an affair. As is usually the case with these scenarios, someone with an axe to grind finds out, and everyone's lives are thrown into disarray as a result. I chose this film partially because in most of Marilyn Monroe's films, it's an ensemble cast and she's usually one of the frontrunners. Clash by Night is one of her earlier films, so she's more of a background character and I haven't seen her in that role yet.
But if you'd prefer a movie in which she is at the forefront, check out The Seven Year Itch. It stars Marilyn alongside Tom Ewell in a comedy where the latter begins to doubt his stable, if not a tad boring, life with his wife and kids after a blonde bombshell moves into the apartment above his. While his family vacation in the country, the husband stays in the city, where The Girl (Monroe) unknowingly tempts him beyond words. If you haven't seen it, check it out. My uncle and I think it's hilarious.
Anyway, if you're going to be on social media for any of today's films, don't forget to use #SummerUnderTheStars and #atvdailycinema during Clash of the Night. See you tomorrow!
