Cool Hand Luke stars Paul Newman as Luke Jackson, a war vet and new inmate to a Florida prison, where a cruel warden reigns supreme. Being a more free-spirited man, Luke doesn't take well to the rigid structure in prison and bucks against all attempts to make him conform to the system's ways. George Kennedy, Strother Martin and Jo Van Fleet all co-star in this film, which is based on the true 1950 book Cool Hand Luke. Donn Pearce authored this novel after his experiences in a prison chain gang, and the movie's re-enactment earned it preservation in the National Film Registry in 2005. Here's the trailer:
