Daily Cinema: Kitty Foyle (1940)
Kitty Foyle stars Ginger Rogers as the titular character in this romantic drama. Kitty is a blue-collar saleswoman for a boutique and finds herself at an important romantic crossroad. In her youth, she met and fell in love with a young society man named Wyn, but their star-crossed marriage failed rapidly after the rejection of his family and the realization that they'd be poor, something Wyn had never had to deal with. The two split and despite still loving Wyn, Kitty eventually meets a man named Mark and within time, he asks Kitty to marry him. This prompts the romantic crossroads she finds herself at in the beginning of the movie. This role won Ginger Rogers an Oscar, so it must be good stuff. lol
I chose this film because I'm more familiar with Ginger Rogers in screwball comedies, or dancing next to Fred Astaire. I haven't seen many of her films at all, but I definitely haven't seen her in anything quite like this so I thought it would make a good Daily Cinema pick. The plot kinda reminds me of the 1937 Bette Davis-Henry Fonda drama That Certain Woman; there are a lot of similarities in how the plot unfolds.

Don't forget to use the tag #summerunderthestars if you'd like to join in on the conversation, and if you happen to watch Kitty Foyle and want to drop me a line, use the tag #atvdailycinema so I can see it. See you tomorrow!
