TNT Preview: In the Land of the Head Hunters

Hi! How was your weekend? We're starting off November's TNTs with the 1914 silent film In the Land of the Head Hunters

This film had no Hollywood stars as the entire cast was made up of Kwakiutl natives, a tribe based in British Columbia, Canada. In the movie (which is a fictional tale based on the tribe), the Indian Trojan war is started when a native warrior and a young woman fall in love, but an evil Sorcerer forces her father's hand in promising the girl to him in marriage. The young man and his father resolve to rid their tribe of the head hunters in the area, and in doing so take on the Sorcerer and his brother, who is believed to be invincible. There was never a clear classification of the film, but it is said to have both dramatic and documentary-style elements. The movie is historically and culturally significant for a number of reasons, two of those reasons being that it was filmed entirely by natives, who weren't actors, and is the first British Columbian film. Here's a trailer from the 100th anniversary release of the film:

In the Land of the Head Hunters will be on this Thursday at our regular TNT time of 8pm EST. I couldn't find anywhere to stream this online, so you'll have to make sure to catch it on Thursday. See you soon!
