TNT Preview: The Women / When Ladies Meet

On this here third week of TNT's in January, we've got two goodies to watch. The first is quickly becoming a regular on the channel as I've seen it on the lineup a few times within the past year, but I haven't seen the second. We kick things off this week with 1939's The Women
This is an ensemble cast if I ever saw it. This was the first movie I'd seen of any of these ladies, and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. I love this movie. I think it's a little funny that Joan Crawford served as a body double for Norma Shearer in one of the latter's earlier silent movies, they're both given top billing in this movie, but were actually rivals for film roles and were rivals in this film as well. The Women is another layered movie in which the main story is that a woman (Shearer) happens to find out that her husband is cheating on her (with Crawford's Crystal) and decides to go to Reno to get a divorce, but the story expands to include both the women she meets on the train and the women she meets while in Reno. Rivalry, fights and smartass comments really make this movie, and the women chosen to carry this plot out couldn't have been a more perfect fit. I couldn't find a trailer, but someone put together this video of some of the witty remarks made throughout the flick:

Our next film is 1941's comedy film When Ladies Meet
This movie stars Crawford as a novelist who falls in love with her boss (Herbert Marshall), and makes a new friend (Greer Garson). Unbeknownst to her, however, her new friend is the boss's wife, the same boss she's in love with. I want to see how this plays out. Here's the trailer:

The Women airs this Thursday at 8pm EST and When Ladies Meet at 10:30pm EST.
