Daily Cinema Double Feature:

The Wrong Box (1966) / The Fallen Idol (1948)
The Wrong Box is a British comedy that stars Ralph Richardson as Joseph Finsbury, an elderly man who, along with his brother, are the last two members of a family investment scheme. In order to inherit everything, one of them has to be the last surviving member. The younger generation of the family is split between keeping the brothers alive. Two cousins place themselves in charge of keeping Joseph alive, while Joseph's brother Masterman (John Mills) is assisted by his grandson, a med student played by Michael Caine. When one of the brothers is mistaken for dead, I'm going to assume hilarity and hijinks ensue. I have to admit that I chose this film partially for Michael Caine; I've loved nearly every film I've seen him in and the premise sounds like a riot.

In The Fallen Idol, Ralph Richardson plays a butler named Baines, a man revered by the young son of Baines' employer, a diplomat. To keep the boy entertained, Baines crafts elaborate stories of adventure and heroism to tell him. One day the little boy, Philippe, thinks he sees his beloved Baines murder his wife. In Philippe's efforts to protect Baines, however, he actually ends up getting him in more trouble with the police. The Fallen Idol sounds like one of those heartbreaking films where it's unclear if anyone gets their happy ending.

Between this and The Wrong Box, I just couldn't decide. I ultimately decided to do a Double Feature because these films couldn't be any more different from each other and I thought that created a great bit of variety for the day. Both films are on later in the day, so hopefully you'll be able to catch one of them. I intend to watch both movies, but you can choose between them if you'd prefer. I hope you enjoy and I'll see you tomorrow!
