Extra File!

Hi! I apologize that this is going up so late (the timestamp says Wednesday but I'm posting it on Sunday) but my uncle moved out of town this week and it disrupted some things in the family unit so I didn't have the motivation to post for a few days. But I'm back, so let's get to our Extra File for this month! I haven't come up with a header image for our Extra File so I apologize that it's been so plain, but it'll be fixed in time for the next one. Usually I'll do 8-10 images for regular Files posts, but Extra Files might have a little more because it's a random collection of vintage things that I've found throughout the month. I'll try not to make them terribly long, but I still hope you enjoy them. This particular edition is mainly on board with April's spring theme, but there are a few randoms tossed in there. Anyway, enough rambling. Let's get to the File!

Harlequin Estelle Blouse, $58
I wanted to start this post off with something fun and colorful, which brings me to this harlequin blouse. I like the different colors, which are a bit different from a similarly-printed skirt I'm going to include in a few, and I like the fitted design. I also like the colored belt instead of a white or black one and surprisingly for me, I like the structured shoulders rather than the fitted shoulders on modern tops.

Aqua Lauren Doilie Dress, $100
I've really been into mints, aquas and oranges this spring, which brings me to this dress. The printing on it isn't too heavy and it's a bit different from other floral dresses, and I like the neckline. I don't usually wear necklaces with dresses that have this neckline, but I really like how the necklace looks with this dress. It's light-colored, the material doesn't seem super heavy, and I wouldn't need to wear a petticoat underneath the dress so it's lighter maintenance than many of the other vintage dresses I gravitate to.

Dark Romance Sunglasses, $7
This wouldn't be a post about things I like without a pair of cat-eyes. This particular pair has silver rose detailing in the corners (I actually thought it was gold until I read the product description) and that's initially what drew me to them. They're simple, the lenses are dark and I love the floral detailing.

Priscilla Dress in Lemon Yellow Gingham, 125 pounds
I love this dress because it's a yellow gingham print rather than the red or blue gingham printed items I usually see. It still reminds me of a picnic, and I really like that this is more of a flouncy dress rather than a fitted one. I would prefer the petticoat underneath as this would probably look shapeless without it. A smaller detail that I like are the lines down the front. Rather than the lining creating an unflattering shape (I usually see it in a square, which makes larger frames look wider and short torsos look boxy), they curve at the chest and go down in an angle to the waist. I think it helps create a curvier, more flattering silhouette for different body types.

Pink Cherry Bella Cardigan, 40 pounds
Usually when I'm looking at vintage-themed clothes I look at dresses, skirts or shoes. I don't find too many pieces of outerwear (that aren't ponchos or capes lol) that I like, but I thought this reproduction cherry cardigan was too cute to pass up. I like the frilly accents on the collar, arms and down the torso; they help the cardigan avoid looking one-dimensional and I like that. I also kinda like that the cherry detailing is limited to the chest rather than being an all-over print. For gals with bigger chests though, the downward pull might have the cherries right over the boobs. lol

One of the things that I was looking up this month was vintage advertising, then I stumbled across this little gem and I laughed for way too long about it. This is a retro ad for prophylaxis, a medicine used to treat VD, but the wording is a hilarious mix of slut shaming and bareback sex shaming. Ads like this always kill me because of the level of contradiction and double standards that they encourage. I could get on my soapbox about it, but there's no need. I just wanted to share this image because I thought it was hilarious.

Ascot Dress in China Rose Blue Print, 135 pounds
I had to have a quintessential vintage dress in this post somewhere because the light blue coloring makes me think of spring, as do the silhouette and loose, flowy skirt. What I really liked about this was the bow detailing on the shoulders. I've seen the straps that tie at the shoulders, but I've never seen detailing like this on a dress before. That's probably not a good indicator of my experience with vintage clothes as there's still so much I don't know, but I thought that was a unique and really cute accent.

Capri Pants in Lavender, $82
I want to say that I've posted this exact image on here before, probably during a Fashion Inspiration post (which I haven't done in quite some time, should I do one soon?) but I'm posting it again. I love these lavender capris. I thought the color was spring-appropriate, and I love the way they've been styled in this photo. I love the white top that the capris were paired with, and I really like the black detailing rather than a lighter color.

Jenny Skirt in 1950s Harlequin Print, $98
I actually saw this skirt before I saw the harlequin top I started the post out with. I thought this skirt was so beautiful I had to include it. I love how full it is, and I love that it's a circle skirt rather than a pencil or mod-style skirt. I've been seeing a bunch of photos from various vintage festivals and outdoor events; this would have been a bright, eye-catching skirt to wear. Harlequin print for some reason also reminds me of the retro atomic design, probably because of the geometric shapes and the varying colors.

Emmie Oxford Flats in Red, $56
I've been digging oxford flats for awhile now, but I usually prefer the simple black and white ones. These are a bit out of my comfort zone but that's why I picked them. These are eye-catching but in a more subtle manner than head-to-toe print, they look better with a lot of vintage skirts than modern-day flats or shoes, and I really love this combination of red and beige

Jenny Skirt in Orange Branch Border Print, $98
I don't think I've ever featured a skirt like this one before, but I was drawn to the bright orange print and the strip of orange on the hem. I've really been liking louder clothing lately, but I'm still a little surprised that I like this one as much as I do. Now would I ever have the confidence to wear it? The jury's still out on that. But I love it. Rather than a floral, geometric or even cherry print, this one is orange-printed, something I don't see a lot. What color top would you wear with this skirt?

So those are some of the extra vintage-themed items I found throughout the month of April. I didn't want to include them all because then we'd be here all day, so I just focused on my favorites. Many of these are from sites that I found recently, so another reason why I like the Extra Files is because I get to feature and talk about newer repro brands, which I don't get to do a lot. PUG Clothing, which I featured in this post, isn't new to me, but Cats Like Us and Deadly is the Female (the other two companies in this post) are, so I wanted to show off some of their goodies. But again, I've rambled too much so I'm taking my leave now. As always, I hope you enjoyed this post and I'll see you soon!
