BHS Wrap-Up
Hi! I just wanted to come on really quickly and wrap up our Black History Spotlight as we head into March. First things first, I know that as of this posting, there's only one entrant in the Community Spotlight, our very first entry in this year's BHS. The reason for that is quite simple; there are so many people who've done pivotal things to help the community that I didn't know who to feature. They're on the way.
As with any month-long promotion I do, I really do hope you've enjoyed Black History Spotlight. Right now, the country is going through a very racially charged time, and for awhile I was worried that I was adding to what is, honestly speaking, becoming a very oversaturated pool. I don't enjoy discussing race, mainly because it bothers the hell out of me that we still have to do so. Truth be told, I'm very much a "Can't we all just get along?" kinda gal myself, and I wish that when we discussed race these days, it could be in the vein of BHS, where we get to celebrate the achievements of others. But with times being as they are, education is key and that was one of my primary goals for this series. I mentioned this earlier in the month, but I've decided to make BHS an annual ATV series because I've only scratched the surface of what we can learn about Black History together, and I'm excited about being able to do it again next year. I'm also thinking about doing something similar to celebrate other cultural or community-based months/events, so if you have any suggestions for me, I'm open to hearing them! Thank you so much for joining me for the first Black History Spotlight and I'll see you on Monday!
