I really wish TCM put The Bride Wore Black in today's lineup. It was that movie that introduced me to Jeanne Moreau and it was an excellent film. It was originally a French movie so it's subtitled, but there isn't even a lot of dialogue so it's fine. If you haven't seen The Bride Wore Black, it's about a woman who gets revenge on the five men who murdered her husband on their wedding day. Julie (Moreau) exacts her revenge between flashbacks of her wedding day and the events leading her up to her current activities but what I liked about this suspense is that at first, you don't know why she's randomly offing people so you aren't sure what to think of Julie initially. I loved the movie and recommend it if you like foreign films, suspense films or want to go outside of your normal movie preferences and watch something totally different. I saw it when TCM aired it once a few years ago and have been waiting to see it again ever since.
But since that movie's not on today's lineup, I chose Elevator to the Gallows or Lift to the Scaffold, as it was named in the UK. This film noir suspense film follows Moreau as a philandering wife who plots to kill her husband with her husband's employee, so that they can cover up their affair and be together in peace. I love a good suspense film and as evidenced in The Bride Wore Black, Jeanne Moreau does excellently with this type of material. I was also intrigued by the film noir style that the movie is said to have. Today's Twitter tags are #MoreauTCM for the day's films and #atvmoreau for our Daily Cinema. Let me know what you think of today's films on Twitter; remember, I'm watching vicariously through you. LOL See you tomorrow!
