TNT Preview: The Criminal Code

The theme for Thursday's night of movies is crime flicks, and 1931's The Criminal Code is the first movie on the list.

Walter Huston stars in this movie as a warden whose daughter falls in love with one of the convicts in his prison. Phillips Holmes stars as the convict in question, who is trying to change his ways but then ends up witnessing a murder within the prison walls. Boris Karloff is also in this film as a fellow inmate, but I don't want to give away his role and spoil the plot. The movie focuses on Graham's life in the prison as he struggles with what he has seen and whether or not to do the right thing about it. There are two remakes of this movie, 1938's Penitentiary and 1950's Convicted, so if you've seen either of those that should give you a little more info on what this one is about. Unfortunately there are no trailers for this movie on YouTube or TCM, but there are some clips you can watch on TCM. The Criminal Code will air this Thursday at 8pm EST.
