From the Pinterest Files....

Sorry this post is so late; between graduations and doctor's appointments I was pretty tied up last week. But since I'm stuck in bed for a couple of days and all the running around has stopped for the time being, I'm going to catch up on missing posts. Now be warned, since these Pins are from all kinds of sites we might have some Etsy dresses and the like, but at least you'll have material for one of your boards, whether it be vintage or bridal. The likelihood that we'll be finding authentic vintage gowns as opposed to vintage inspired ones is pretty low; so if you want some genuine vintage pieces you'll have to wait until next week. Today's theme is inspiration, if you're planning for your own wedding or just building a board. Let's get started!

The lace and the shorter length of the dress is where this gown implements its vintage bridal inspiration and I really like it. I think these gowns always look better when they're in softer colors like the ones in this dress and they're very versatile in terms of how you can accessorize them. I'm not one for heels, but a pair of colored sparkly flats would do me just fine. I also think that when you go shorter with a wedding dress, the skirt should be full like this one so that there is still a bit of glamour and it's a bit more special than just a regular dress.

I really like this board because even though it's not very large, I like the different candids of the vintage wedding dresses. I've noticed that many dresses that say they're vintage inspired don't really have a lot of vintage in them, so these would help with figuring out which parts of vintage wedding gowns are actually in today's bridal gown selections. If you're trying to learn more about vintage bridal materials so you can integrate them in your own wedding, just want a board of pretty dresses to look at or you're on the hunt to find a modern piece that has true vintage inspiration, you'll find it with this board.

Hey look, I tried to stay away from Etsy posts, alright? But it was difficult for me to find what I was looking for because I know the style of bridesmaids dresses has (thankfully) changed from older times and most brides today aren't trying to put their bridesmaids in foofy, puffy, unflattering dresses anymore. I was trying to find a dress that still had vintage sensibilities without being the typical old school bridesmaids gowns that we see, and that's how I found this one. I guess it's a little ballet-ish with the bottom and I do believe the material is tulle, but I think that the length of the dress, the subtle color, and the silhouette are all flattering and cute for a bridesmaid.

This board is full of vintage engagement and wedding rings, so if you're like me and you love the pieces that have actually stood the test of time and still look good for usage now, this is going to be a fun board for you to look at. I love the unique design that many of these rings have and I also like that they're not too gaudy or overdone. I also wonder about the story that some of the older rings tell; who owned them, how'd they keep the jewelry in such good condition? I would love to own a ring similar to one of these one day.

I like this pin because of the old school fair/flyer sort of feel it has going. I think it's fun, informal, and is a good route to take if you don't want to do the traditional type of ceremony or reception invitation. Not only does this invite have some of that retro cheesiness you see on some of the posters (i.e., the "Golly Gee" which just tickles me to pieces), but how exciting does it look? The invite makes it seem like this is the event of the year and you'll be missing out on loads of fun by not going. This was a pretty awesome idea.

A lot of times these days I have noticed that when it comes to wedding decor, 'vintage' and 'rustic' are often interchangeable. When someone wants something a little more natural, a little more delicate than the glitz and glam that is typical of many modern ceremonies & receptions, they prefer to go 'rustic' with the decor. This usually gives everything a more vintage feel, and I've noticed that with a few of the wedding shows that I watch. I honestly don't know much about vintage wedding decor because I haven't been able to find too many candids that show them, but what I like about this board is that each wedding photo incorporate actual vintage elements into the decor. Going rustic or vintage is also a great opportunity to save money and get DIY-chic with the decor options and this board shows a variety of creative possibilities.

I agree with the author of this pin; this would be an awesome car to ride from the ceremony to the reception in. This is a vintage Rolls Royce Phantom and I think it is the picture of retro glam in terms of transportation. I love classic cars, but this is almost too beautiful to imagine owning. But would I enjoy the hell out of my wedding day if I got to ride around in it as long as possible? Absolutely. lol This car would go great with one of the boards I've got below; the time period of the car and of the wedding showcased in the board below match each other perfectly.

I love this board because for one, it's huge as hell. It's over 1000 pins and going strong. Secondly, this is full of black and white candid wedding day photos of all types of couples from different time periods. It's so interesting to me to be able to see all these different moments that were captured on film and picking up on how the photography styles have changed over time. There are some photos of just the bride, there are others with the bride & groom (quite obviously lol), and others with the entire bridal party. This is also a good board if you're looking for different kinds of vintage hairstyles for the big day.

While I wouldn't choose this for my own bouquet, I thought the way that the vintage elements were integrated was innovative. I never would have thought to wrap the bouquet in crochet or put a cameo on it. It gives the bouquet that aged appearance, which I liked, and if you're good with things like this then it probably wouldn't be hard to DIY either. The cameo would be the perfect piece for the "something old" element as well so it sort of kills two birds with one stone. I can't see this on a more detailed bouquet; the attention to detail stands out more with a simpler arrangement.

I'm in love with this board, mainly because I love the 1920s in general. The Great Gatsby is also one of my favorite books. I had to read it back in high school and I fell in love with it immediately. It was my introduction to the Roaring Twenties and was one of the first tragic books I'd ever read. It was a beautifully written book and I was so enchanted by the glamour, the glitz, the pomp and circumstance of it all that I pictured in my mind as I read along. So obviously, when it came out in theaters last year, I was there. And it completely lived up what I'd always pictured. A wedding done with this theme in mind could be absolutely gorgeous.

These are vintage-inspired wedding key escort cards, which I thought was a super nifty idea. I was actually looking for vintage wedding favors when I found this pin, but you could use this idea as inspiration for wedding favors, the escort cards you see in the pin, or as a decor accent. If you've read ATV for awhile then you already know my obsession with keys. I also think these would be a unique wedding keepsake if used as part of the favors rather than the escort cards. Having them like this though makes them a bit harder to lose, so I like that.

And finally, I chose this board because it has different elements to it rather than just wedding dresses. It's more well-rounded than the other boards I've featured, which were mainly focused on one part of the wedding planning. This is another board with over 1k pins on it and there's a little bit of everything on it. Wedding dresses, hairstyles, fashion options for the wedding party, decor and even cake options are on this board so there's no shortage of ideas or theme possibilities. There's no set time period or theme to this board so I'm sure it will cater to those with different interests.

Well that does it for this week's Pinterest Files. I have to admit, my real excitement for this month's set of Files comes from Etsy. Big surprise there, right? lol I've just seen so many things on there that I wish I could win the lottery already and buy it all. Never mind the fact that I'm single. That's neither here nor there. LOL I hope you have some new stuff to pin to your vintage/bridal boards and that you enjoyed this post; see you next week!
