Citizen Kane stars Welles as Charles Kane, a mogul whose last words were "Rosebud," which opens the door for the story to begin as a reporter who gets wind of that final word sets out to find out the meaning behind it by talking to the various people in Kane's life. Those conversations tell the story of Kane's life in a series of various flashbacks, about who Kane was as a person, how he became the way he was, and ultimately, the significance of "Rosebud." This movie was at least partially based on the newspaper icon William Randolph Hearst and has become so iconic since its release that it was officially deemed worthy to be preserved in the National Film Registry in 1969 by the Library of Congress.
