Octoberfest 2016: Vintage Halloween Costumes & Halloween Fashion

I started this year's Octoberfest with an installment of the IG series, but I wasn't ready to be done with it yet so here's another one. At first this post was purely for vintage Halloween costumes, but I came across a lot of Halloween themed authentic clothing and realized I couldn't pass it up. Since this is about both costumes and Halloween-inspired vintage fashion, there may be a few entries from the same shops. I was going to make a separate entry Halloween weekend about vintage-inspired costumes, but I think I'm just going to combine them. So let's see what's going down on the 'Gram!

JUST LISTED!! Another rare #1920s antique Halloween costume! Two piece w matching hat, appliquΓ© polka dots, ruffle Pierrot collar, and ghastly jackolantern face complete w teeth n eyebrows LOL πŸ‘… link in profile! #vintagehalloweencostume #1920shalloween #antiquehalloween #guermantesvintage

This was the first time I'd even seen a 1920s costume for sale, as most of my experience with vintage costumes is in photos. Be warned, you're going to see this shop quite a few times throughout the post; Guermantes has some good Halloween-themed stock in the shop and I've been loving most of what I've seen so far. I'm kinda diggin' this. It's a little weird, it's a little cool, and I'd wear it with a sickly sweet/creepy looking mask.

SOLD - Well well well... Rare #1960s double layer #sheer inky black sturdy rayon mesh dramatic #trapezecoat / #swingcoat with sparkling #handbeaded #spiderwebs made out of tiny metallic black #glassseedbeads! Fastens at the neck with a hidden hook and eye. Couture-like full swing silhouette. This was part of my personal collection, and frankly, I'm crazy for selling it. I have NEVER seen anything like it. Pretty much one size fits all, with its roomy swing cut. If interested in purchasing, please DM me. Thank you! ✨πŸ•Έ✨ #butchwaxvintage #forsale #1960sglamour #truevintage #spookyvintage

This is stunning. It's both seasonally and holiday-appropriate without being kitschy or campy and I love it. I'm not surprised it was already sold when Amanda uploaded it to Butch Wax's IG feed. She mentioned she was crazy for even putting it up for sale, and I agree with her. lol It's nothing like I've seen before and since it took me so long to come across this once, it's pretty likely I won't see anything like it again. It has a simple elegance about it and I really enjoy the spiderweb accents.

One of the nuttiest #vintagecostumes in my collection- this #1950s #homemade #leopardgirl costume. The hood is pretty silly, it has a super wide neck. Maybe for hair to stick out? Patent leather ears, naturally. πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† #bwvpersonalcollection #vintagehalloweencostume

This costume is so cute. I love that it has a detached hood, which I actually like more for this costume rather than an attached hood. This is a homemade costume, which I think I enjoy more than if a store had made it, because that means its probably one of a kind. This is sexy and playful and I really like it. It's not overtly vintage and you could wear this to a modern-themed costume party, but I like the old-school pinup vibe I'm getting from it. I feel like Bettie Page wore something similar to this minus the hood. Am I remembering this correctly?

I thought this was such a cute idea for the couple who likes vintage or those going to a period-themed (I hate that phrase! It reminds me of menstruals LOL) Halloween party. And if your guy (or girl, I don't know your life) has a cute butt, having "State Prison" stamped on the back pocket gives you an excuse to look at it all night.

I'm not sure what this costume or dress is, I don't even know if it's a dress you can use as a costume or a costume in dress form. lol What I do know, however, is that I like it. It's vivid and fun-looking and my favorite details are the pom-poms dangling from the bottom. I feel like you could wear crazy striped tights and Victorian boots with curved tips with this and make it a funny witch costume. How would you wear this, as a dress or a costume?

I love this bat shirt. I can't think of anything about it that I don't like. Love that it's dark and there's white detailing, I love that the sleeves look like bat wings with contrasting colors in the detailing, and I like the keyhole. Even though I'm a Gold-level member of the BDC (Boobie Deficient Club) and I know there's no fun stuff hiding behind that keyhole, it's still a cute detail. lol

I love the idea of a Rosie the Riveter costume. It's easy, all you need is a denim pantsuit, some combat or work boots, and a red bandana. As for hair and makeup, check out Cherry Dollface, she has tutorials on both of them. You're also going to need at least one gun to take to the show so you can do Rosie's signature pose. It's a nod to a retro icon and its comfortable to boot.

The level of complete plotz that I was at internally when I saw this dress, lemme tell ya. I realized at some point while I was typing this up that it wouldn't be hard to put together a continuation of today's post based on vintage costumes with regular vintage clothing. I'm not sure if this is a theater costume or an actual showgirl dress, but I don't care. Feathers and lace and fluffy bottoms, oh my. lol This would be an excellent choice for a showgirl or burlesque costume.

Fabulous vintage Grecian Goddess costume up for grabs! 38-42" bust. Free waist and hips! #halloweencostume #sassypantsgrrl #grecian #vintagecostume

I've always wanted to dress up as a Grecian goddess for Halloween and I think this one is beautiful. Wouldn't this look great if you paired this with a physical replica of Snapchat's gold leaf crown filter? I love the simplicity but regal elegance of Grecian costumes but unfortunately, I won't ever be wearing this one. Check out that bust size requirement. LOL

I like the simplicity of both of these dresses. It wouldn't be difficult to make a costume out of either of these since they're actual uniforms, which I like. You don't have to go overboard trying to make the outfit accurate for the time period you're going for; it'll just need some accessories to liven it up a bit. I think I'd go for Girl Scout; I was kicked out of a local chapter when I was 10 and I'd like to right a wrong. lol

You haven't lived until you've googled weird vintage Halloween costumes.

I'd like to wrap up this post with a hilarious vintage costume idea. My first line of inquiry concerns the costume itself--is this papier mache, or was this made by a company? Secondly, please tell me that the lady in this fabulous egg came up with the idea herself and this isn't just a modeling photo. I'd have made cutouts for the arms, but otherwise I dig the hell out of this. In a sea full of elegant, beautiful and/or sexy costumes, it sounds pretty fun to just be an egg. lol

So that does it for me today. I hope you can forgive me for a week of radio silence. lol We're already halfway through the month, and up until today, you'd only had one post for this month's series. I post diarrhea'd you this morning, capping things off with today's post, so I gave you a lot to read very quickly and I'm sorry about that. I'm working on staying on track for the rest of the series, and as long as my personal life lets me off the rollercoaster I shouldn't have a problem with that. Anyway, per usual I hope you enjoyed today's post and another installment of the IG series. See you in a couple of days (for real this time)
