Octoberfest 2016: Fall Fashion on Instagram

Hello hello! It's that time of year again--Octoberfest! I have been excited for October since July, no joke. I like Halloween and all, but I've never been excited for this time of year that early before. After SUTS was over was when I really got excited, which is why the fall posts I had planned for September never came about. I'm going to find a way to work some of them into this year's Octoberfest instead. But anyway! I had so much fun with last year's Octoberfest that I decided to make a tradition of it and do it again this year.
I was a bit undecided on what day to start, which is why even though this is postmarked for the 1st, you probably won't be seeing it until sometime Sunday (or Monday, you know I'm late for every damn thing). For the most part, this year's Octoberfest will follow suit with last year's format of posting every other day--probably with varying degrees of success--about various spooky and fall-related things up until Halloween. I'm kicking off this year's series with some new fall acquisitions from a few IG accounts. This kills two birds with one stone for me--it kicks off this year's Octoberfest, and it allows me to make another edition of the IG series, which I've missed making terribly. A few of the shops in this post are probably in previous installments of my IG series, but I tried to find some new shops as well. Enjoy!

It's time to start thinking about winter coats and wraps! by @greatglenvintage

One of my favorite things about vintage fall fashion is the outerwear. I absolutely adore vintage coats. Trench coats, ponchos, capes, wraps, you name it and I like it. I'm not the biggest fan of vintage furs since the majority of them are actual furs, but that was the norm back then so I don't bug about it. I still love looking at 'em, though. The reason why I included this picture first is because it has so many of my favorite fall elements. The color saturation is a bit different on my computer than it was on my phone, but the deep maroon color is one of my favorite shades for this time of year. I love long jackets and neutral shades, love the glamour (and warmth) that the furs and wraps give, and for me the overall picture just inspired me for the season.

In the Shop | 1950s Over Five Seven Dress by @dalenavintage

This is another garment that looked like a deeper color on my phone. When I initially saw this on the app, it looked like a mustard color, and that's another of my favorite fall colors. Whereas I like a bright, vivid yellow for summertime, I like a deeper shade of it like mustard for fall. I think this would be a good transitional piece for the early days of fall, when you can just wear a cardigan or light sweater over summer pieces. It's picking up a little more like a bright yellow on my computer, but I like it nonetheless.

Moccasins. Size 6. $25 with free shipping in USA. Please leave your email in comments to claim. by @hustlevintage

I really like fringed moccasins and boots for this time of year. Fringed moccasins are more fun but still have that element of simplicity that I like. I'm a little late to the party with fringed shoes, but I think they can bring a little more oomph to what is otherwise a basic outfit. Moccasins in general are soft, comfortable and have a bit of simplicity that I like. Fringed moccasins bring some of that summer boho feel into the fall and look good with an array of seasonal outfits. I will say though that I'm struggling to find vintage outfits that I'd wear these boots with; I'd wear these shoes with more modern outfits.

Just the perfect turtleneck sweater🍁now available in the shop! www.cocoandorange.com by @cocoandorange

I love the color and texture of this sweater. Burnt orange/rust is a favorite color of mine for this time of year, and I love the detailing on the sweater. I think it keeps the shirt from looking plain and I like that the pattern breaks up at the wrists and collar. It has that perfect, cuddly feel for fall that I've been drawn to this year. I don't drink hot coffee but I kinda wish I did. Let me paint you a picture so I can explain. Picture a big comfy chair, me cuddled up in said chair in this sweater and probably some leggings with long socks, with a steaming mug of hot coffee in my hands, looking wistfully out of a foggy window. haha That's the intended aesthetic but I don't drink coffee, so the actual picture is probably me in front of my mirror, complaining that the turtleneck is choking me but liking the sweater too much to take it off. LOL My imagination is ridiculous, isn't it? Moving on.

NEW ARRIVAL! 1950s Plaid Tweed Wool Skirt | 25 1/2 inch waist | $52 by @canaryclubvintage

Plaid is a great print for any season in my opinion, but I love how it looks during fall. For modern fashion I like deeper plaids, but with vintage fashion I've learned that I love lighter plaids. I love a number of things about this skirt but one of the main things is the mix of brown shades that it has. I love that the skirt is tweed, which is one of my favorite materials for both vintage clothing and the fall season. I love that the pleating in the skirt isn't harsh and the skirt is flouncy rather than fitted. How would you style this?

@lilahsummer in our Annie wide-leg dream jeans, captured by @purienne_. Now available... StonedImmaculateClothing #tbt by @stoned_immaculate_

These are legit a pair of dream pants for me. I dream about wearing jeans this perfect. The only thing I'd change is to make the wash of the denim a bit darker. I love the off-centered button closure at the top and the relaxed structure of the pants. The flares themselves aren't crazy large which I can appreciate as a smaller chick, but I love how they look on the model. I think a good pair of high-waisted flares with a fitted vintage sweater or turtleneck would be a chic look for fall.

And finally, I wanted to give a little peek at one of this month's upcoming posts. Well, two posts, technically, but whatever. It's still a peek. lol If this isn't your first time here, then you already know my love borders on obsession with flapper fashion and the '20s. It's not very practical to wear with all the bells and whistles though (at least not for my life) so I love when Halloween comes around because it gives me an excuse to wear it. These are gorgeous.

And so ends our first post in this year's Octoberfest! Don't worry, if you're just here for the spooky shit stuff it'll be up in a few days. lol I say this quite often (probably a bit too often, if I'm being honest) when I start something new here but I really do hope you enjoy the series. It's a lot of work to do on my own, but it's also crazy fun. I think the only thing that would make it better is knowing that someone else is reading and enjoying it as well. The only indicator for me is the view count, which (in comparison to my other posts) went through the roof last year and excited me beyond words. I'm hoping that lightning strikes twice. But anyway, I've rambled long enough. See you in a couple of days!
