Hi all, I'm Mandy. I run a few blogs on here, one for soap operas and the main one focusing on my experience with anxiety. I did run a tv blog that provided recaps and reviews on tv shows out today, but I couldn't stay interested enough in current tv to review it all the time. So I guess its pretty obvious that by the difference in those blogs that my interests are pretty varied. lol
Among many other things that I enjoy, I love vintage things. My favorite era in general is between the 20s-50s. The 80s follow closely behind, but I don't consider that vintage just yet. Specifically though, I love movies from that time period. I tried writing an introduction as to why I adore them so, but every time I tried writing one out, it ended up coming across as condescending and judgmental to today's film industry, which I don't want to do. There are quite a few current movies that are among my favorites, but I have a love for classic movies as well.
I don't like all classic movies, but that's based on my personal preference, not so much that it wasn't a good plot. I'm not a big fan of war movies, so alot of classics like D-Day or Midway are lost on me. That's fine with me though; I've seen enough war movies to last me a lifetime anyway.
One of the many things I love about classic movies is that there is an air of authenticity and originality there that I don't see in alot of movies today. The comedy factor in Operation Petticoat was priceless, the drama factor in All Fall Down pulled me in, and the insight into the mentality of the women in the 1950s showed in How To Marry a Millionaire was interesting for someone who didn't grow up in that atmosphere.
I like reviewing movies and keeping track of what I watch, so I decided to make this blog so I didn't bore my family to death telling them about the movies all day. lol I wanted to find others who like classic movies or could help them stumble across some they like by reading this blog. For the most part, I don't give a regular synopsis after I give the general plot, I just kinda tell it how I interpreted it or saw it for myself. I might also stick in a link or two or a few photos of vintage things I like; told you I'm in love with vintage things so don't be surprised if between a few reviews is a link to a site of vintage dresses or some old school furniture I thought was cute.
So stick around with me and we can reminisce about the era that most of us weren't alive for. :-)
