Hijacked: TCM's Summer Under the Stars

As I mentioned in a post earlier this month, August is my favorite time of year to watch TCM because of their annual Summer Under the Stars promotion. You can find so many different types of movies and fall in love with so many different stars that you probably would not have found otherwise; Summer Under the Stars features both big names and underdogs. I began watching Marilyn Monroe, Warren Beatty, Natalie Wood, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall through TCM's Summer Under the Stars throughout the years, and that's just to name a few. If you're new to the world of classic films, there is no better time (to me) to start watching them than in August during Summer Under the Stars. Because I go to school online and the majority of my business ventures are done from home from the time being, I've been able to watch a lot of the movies every year and on more than one occasion I ended up watching all of the chosen movies for the day. They'll get ya like that and I found it really enjoyable; hopefully you all will too if you're not familiar with this annual promotion.

It's a wonderful time to learn more about some of the biggest names in classic film and be able to see the range of their work and I probably get more excited learning about who will be featured every year than I should. lol I guess I'm hoping that one of you will find this as intriguing as I do. I also get excited about this time of year because it was TCM's Summer Under the Stars a few years ago and my increased viewing of old films that indirectly inspired me to create the original premise of this blog. Doing something that still revolves around classic movies was always a focus for me after the blog took on its present concept, which is why TNT is around. It was a way for me to keep the original purpose of the blog alive, just in a smaller way. Summer Under the Stars is a perfect time for some of you to be introduced to a lot of really great movies, it's a fun time for me and it also gives me an opportunity to tip my hat at this blog's origins.

So what's with the title of this post? If you're trying to find more classic films or learn more about the stars of that time, then this is definitely where you should be for the month of August. TCM features a different star everyday for the Under the Stars promotion, and everyday I'll be sharing a post with that day's featured star and then I will select one of their movies being played that day to feature as well. We'll still be doing our weekly TNT's, but I definitely want to take part in Summer Under the Stars and bring it to ATV this year. Hence why I titled this "Hijacked." Not my concept at all, but I'm taking it over and bringing it here. lol

Everyday, I'll put up a post on that day's featured star, a few of their movies, then select one to be featured as ATV's Daily Cinema. (The name for that is still in the air. lol) You can find everything out on your own if you like; TCM not only has bios up on all of their stars but they also have the calendar for this Summer Under the Stars available for view so you can check it out here. I just happen to find all of that very interesting so I wanted to share it with you all here on ATV.

I think this is going to be really fun, especially for those of you who only watch classic movies with me on Thursdays, so this could be something interesting we can all share with each other. I'm not on Twitter or anything so unfortunately we can't live tweet or anything...I'm going to give that some thought....but regardless I can't wait for Summer Under the Stars to begin. Let's enjoy this year's Summer Under the Stars together! If you're not already subscribed via email updates to the site, don't forget to come back on July 31st for the preview post, and everyday in August for TCM's daily featured star and movie!
